Finally some great research about my favorite topic

As a long-time collector of Woman Suffrage artifacts, I was eagerly looking forward to the publication of Ken Florey’s new book on the subject. I was delighted to find that my expectations were more than met. First of all what impressed me the most about the book were the graphics. There are over 700 postcards pictured in full color in close to actual size. This makes it easy to see detail that might otherwise be missed. I was also pleased with the arrangement of the cards into six separate sections: official cards, Real Photo cards, printed photos, holiday cards, commercial cards issued as singles, and commercial cards issued as sets. This made it easier for me to negotiate the text when I was looking for specific pieces. Each section also has its own numbering system.

What I also found to be extremely helpful were the introductions that preceded each section that gave me both historical and technical background to the cards in that category. It’s a beautiful book and should be of enormous help to both the collector and the scholar. There are many cards here that have never to my knowledge been pictured before and which are probably unknown to even some of the most advanced collectors. For the scholar, these cards give an excellent introduction to period attitudes both pro and con towards suffrage and serve as excellent commentary on the subject that probably can’t be found elsewhere. Definitely a must buy for anyone interested in the subject of women’s rights, women suffrage postcards, or historical postcards in general

Kenneth Florey offers a fascinating account of the use of postcards during the American woman suffrage movement. In this extensive carefully categorized collection, the reader not only learns about the historical impact of the use of postcards, but is also treated to over 700 beautifully produced images.

Mr. Florey explains the following about the suffragists use of postcards, “One of the primary reasons for its popularity among activists was that the golden age of the post card, the period from 1902-1915 when post card collecting became an international past time, dovetailed quite conveniently with the final push on both sides of the Atlantic to achieve national suffrage legislation. In America the Woman’s Journal frequently published news, pictures, and advertisements of new cards as did its counterpart in England, Votes for Women… Cards were produced in abundance not only by the suffragists themselves but also by commercial publishers.”

"American Woman Suffrage Postcards" concludes with “Notes” and “Cited Works” sections that give additional detailed information, making this volume especially valuable for researchers, scholars, and collectors.

The second book of the trilogy, the young survivors of the shipwreck in Book One end up on an apparently deserted island very far from anything. They're alive, but the beginning four have one member who is delusional as a result of the traumas of getting from the shipwreck to the island, and three who work in terrific cohesion to establish life-sustaining routines. The characters are good, as in the first book, but the island lends itself to better imagery without the burden of maritime vocabulary of the first book. As in the first book, a considerable amount of toleration for wildly unlikely occurances is necessary. It turns out that the island is not as deserted as the four think, and they witness crimes, deal with wild animals and general survival, and confront evidence of human occupation of the island in the past, among other things that strain credibilitly. Assuming that one overlooks these strains, and Korman makes it easy for the reader to do so, the book is good fun, maybe more enjoiyable for an upper elementary reader than the first book and it can be read independent of that first one.

Comprehensive coverage, but explanations somewhat lacking

I used these questions (in their online form) to prepare for the shelf exam in my IM clerkship. IM essentials covers many of the most important topics for the exam and is a good alternative to UWorld for fairly comprehensive coverage across fewer questions. On the other hand, the answer explanations were somewhat poorly written and had a relatively narrow scope compared to UWorld explanations. The explanations here were overly formal and technical in comparison to the more conversational and explanatory style of UWorld. I think IM essentials is adequate as a self-testing tool, but is less useful as a primary learning tool the way Uworld can be used.

I studied for the shelf exam with the videos on onlinemeded.org, these questions, and about 1/3 of the UWorld medicine questions and scored in the 80s. Overall, I think this is a valuable resource if you will not have time to finish UWorld.

I'm sure the arrangements are beautiful and of musical quality, but all I was looking were Xmas carols in conventional 4-part arrangements in a lower voice. (Besides I could never keep this tightly bound album on the piano rack. Would that it were loose-leaf. )
No one in my family can persistently hit high "E"s. If such a collection exists may I return this classical concert version for such a family album for a bunch of baritone grandsons, a quintessential alto wife, and all the soprano relatives with creaky tops? GUS Vasiliadis

It would've been nice, too

I don't know which low voices they had in mind, but most of these songs are too high for me to sing. I'm a bass, but haven't the high range for these arrangements. It would've been nice, too, if so large a book had been spiral bound in order to keep it open on the music stand or keyboard. It's nice that both religious and popular tunes are included.

was quite surprised!

this is a softcover book, and was surprised to find it had been wrapped in a plastic bag, which was taped to secure it closed. it was boxed! with air bag padding, before they shipped it! usually the large soft covers are put into a plastic bag to ship, and so do suffer some damage, even if minor. this is a beautiful book, arriving in pristine condition, and is a perfect gift! thank you!

I have all four of Scape's books, this one is a great follow up to his first one! Very well done and all of his books have terrific illustrations. He is a highly talented artist and if you are interested in graffiti art, his books won't disappoint!

I found the first to be a perfect supplement to the beginner graffiti artist's repertoire. This book is the next level, it will help to enhance your craft and I highly recommend purchasing this book even if you have not finished the first.

Mystic, enigmatic writings

"The Lords and the New Creatures" is a collection of poetry by Jim Morrison, who was lead singer of The Doors. The book is divided into two sections: "The Lords: Notes on Vision," and "The New Creatures." This is one of those intriguing books that I by chance picked off the shelf in a bookstore and just began reading there in the aisle; I found Morrison's work so engrossing that within a few minutes I knew I had to buy the book and explore it more deeply.
The first division of the book is dominated by prose poems. This portion of the book is a combination of mystical/philosophical treatise and cultural criticism, often supplemented with historical references; here Morrison sounds like the love child of William Blake and Roland Barthes. The second part of the book consists largely of free verse and is more enigmatic; with its sometimes nightmarish imagery, "The New Creatures" strikes me as Morrison's own personal Book of Revelation.
An important theme in this book is the archetypal city: "a ring of death / with sex at its center." Morrison also writes about the alchemist, the voyeur, and other figures. Much of the book deals with the motion picture as both art and cultural institution. Throughout the book are hallucinogenic swirls of cross-cultural references and allusions: Yoga, the assassin Oswald, hermaphroditism, the Christian trinity, Tarot cards, ventriloquism, lynching, etc.
In "The Lords and the New Creatures," Morrison seems to be trying to attain a unified vision/theory that encompasses both modern technology and humanity's mythic heritage. His poetic language is often quite startling. This is a remarkable volume by an artist who is himself an iconic figure in 20th century pop culture.

Let me tell you about surrealism and the lost god."For those who are sincere to themsleves and can dig deep into the soul, you could indeed capture the poetry in which life is all about. Poetry gives life form, most people see poetry as a series of rhyming words. They have got it all wrong. Jim explored the world not as how he would of wanted it to be, but the way this world already is. Some people show ignorance in the disorder that we are sorrounded with, Jim didn't. He was a poet of truth, that's what Jim tells us in this book.

VERY well written and easy to understand

This is an wonderfully written book to learn about what polymers are and the myriad uses we have for them! I found it to be well written in a comprehensible format, without overuse of technical language. The author knows how to explain things without putting you to sleep with boring, mundane jargon. It kept my attention from cover to cover.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to learn more about the science behind polymers. You will not be disappointed.
