About the Author
Armed with a degree in Behavioral Sciences, American, Liz Clark, spent ten years working with kids in a locked psychiatric ward which gave her an interestingly twisted perspective on things. She warped her views even further by working eight years in the Juvenile Detention Center in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. Currently, she works as a Service Coordinator for young children with disabilities. With a youthful enthusiasm and chronically positive outlook, her personality is made apparent in her writing style. Not one to shy away from public speaking or a good chat, her storytelling skills outrage and delight both verbally and in script. Trusty sidekick/butt of most jokes: Australian, Lynne Atkins, an artistic Sign writer by trade, has been a business owner, teacher, manager and a personal assistant. Lynne brings to the mix the organizational ability and finely tuned talents of a taskmaster. With her skills as an accomplished map-reader, an internal GPS system (which, she credits to a past life as the Captain on the historic Pinta), and her eye for photography she was able to navigate their way around the world while capturing it in the lens. Having met in the year 2000 Liz and Lynne have since traveled to over 65 countries and all 7 continents. Between these two, a plethora of adventure, banter, and general shenanigans are never far behind.

I felt like I was right there with these girls on their ...

I was exhausted when I finished this book! It usually takes me a long time to read a book - and I read it in 2 days and I NEVER read a book in 2 days. I felt like I was right there with these girls on their trip - so many times! And I just could NOT believe how brave they were! I cannot wait to see what the next adventure is for these two girls! Loved it!

Funny, entertaining and educational all in one book! It was great to travel along to all of the different countries from the comfort of my home. It inspired me to plan my own global wanderings.

A lot of complaining from what sounds like ignorant privileged people

A lot of complaining from what sounds like ignorant privileged people. I think towards the end of the book when you mentioned how you had grown and were forever changed by this experience you should have shared examples or how you planned to live your life differently. I also couldn't get over the "Catacombs of Paris" incident. Very embarrassing and disrespectful. You can imagine why some people are not to welcoming to tourists.

Must Have For All Tupac Fans

I really love this book. I didn't know what to expect being used but it was in excellent condition. It looks practically new! The pictures are vivid and clear. His poetry and quotes from interviews are all in the book. I'm glad I purchased the book. I was and I still am a big Tupac fan. It's a must have for all Tupac fans!

Autobiography of a poetic genius....

Tupac has been dead for 7 years now, and despite many books being written about him, there has never been an official autobiography--until now. "Resurrection" is his official autobiography, entirely in his own words, and is written in cinematic fashion, starting with him as a young boy up until his rise as the biggest and most influential rap artist of all time.
In addition to the many unpublished lyrics and poetry here, fans also get many copies of various documennts here, including letters he wrote in prison, his lawsuit against the city of Oakland after being beat up by the cops, dozens of rare photos, scripts, and more. But most important is the autobiography itself, which shows a whole side of Tupac that the media seem to negelect. Often portrayed in the press as a "gangster", Tupac was far too intelligent, well read, revolutionary, and ahead of his time to be labeled as a mere gangster. He was leader, and activist, and in many ways, a PROPHET. Though he has become one of the biggest icons of our time, many people dont seem to realize just how powerful he was and still is.
This is THE essential Tupac book, as it is easily superior to any other Tupac book out there. Every Tupac fan should own this, and those who seek to understand him and his music better should also purchase this book.

The first of the Kingdom books by Cynthia Voigt

This is the first book in the Kingdom series. The heroine is a strong character with a quixotic streak, who learns the difficulty of helping other people -- it's not as easy as it seems! The writing is elegant, the plot is interesting and unusual, the characterization is excellent and you quickly grow to care for her and her family. The Kingdom is well-imagined, and it's interesting to see how separate the lives of the nobles are from the common people. I have read this book three times over a 14 year period, and still enjoy it as much as ever.

Read this book!

If you are thinking about reading this book I urge you to stop thinking and start reading. I read it for the first time as a teenager and have read it again so many times since then. I get lost in the Kingdom each time I enter it and I find that I cannot stay away from the series for very long. This is one of my favorite books in the whole world. I have read it at least a dozen times. A very thought provoking, dramatic almost-fairy tale that challenges how we view the world and the stories that shape it, through an admirable, strong and clever young woman's eyes. Highly recommend!

Woodard examines the role of poet Amiri Baraka's "cultural politics" on Black Power and black nationalism in the 1960s and 1970s. After a brief overview of the evolution of black nationalism since slavery, he focuses on activities in Northeastern urban centers (Baraka's milieus were Newark, N.J., and, to a lesser extent, New York City). Taking issue with scholars who see cultural nationalism as self-destructive, Woodard finds it "fundamental to the endurance of the Black Revolt from the 1960s into the 1970s." The 1965 assassination of Malcolm X catalyzed LeRoi Jones's metamorphosis into Amiri Baraka and his later "ideological enchantment" with Castro's revolution. After attracting national attention following the 1966 Detroit Black Arts Convention, Baraka shifted his emphasis to electoral politics. He galvanized black support for Kenneth Gibson, who was elected mayor of Newark in 1970. Woodard pays scant attention, however, to the fact that "Baraka's models for political organization had nothing revolutionary to contribute in terms of women's leadership" or the roots of "Baraka's insistence on psychological separation" from whites. Woodard's conclusion descends into rhetoric as he urges support for a school system to "develop oppressed groups into self-conscious agents of their own liberation," while offering no specific, practical suggestions. Woodard's need to be both scholar and prophet are in conflict, and the prophet's voice undermines the scholar's.

The title of this book speaks for itself, no other title would suit.

Excellent.

I was first introduced to Amira Baraka watching a showcase PBS aired after his death Jan. 9, 2014.
A panel of artists gave their testimonies regarding their relationship with this remarkable man. One of the artists was Komozi Woodard. His book has documented Amiri Baraka's life VERY well. Outstanding for informational content.

The book is an In-depth review of decisive, historical milestones. The wickedness African descendants endured to become recognized as citizens in this country with special focus on events in, but not limited to Chicago, is recorded in these pages.

Woodard writes about the relationship of black power, black cultural arts, and the black nationalist movement with LeRoi Jones, later Amiri Baraka, one of its main supporters. ... He concludes that Black America requires an ideological and political arsenal of both nationalism and Marxism. But at no time can the emphasis be purely Marxist or nationalist without doing damage to the black community. In other words, sectarianism is the enemy of black liberation and the fight for equality. This is a must read for all interested in politics and race in the U.S. Recommended for undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty. -- P. Good, short read; solid continuation of the series

The Bronze Key is the third installment for The Magisterium series. It is a powerful addition to the series, and I had been waiting for it and purchased it on the day it came out. With that, keep in mind that this little review is from the point of view of a fan of the series.

This book feels a tad shallow, to be honest. It's writing is light, just a bit too light, and only hints at deeper themes. That's also not a bad thing, because the intended audience is clearly a younger one; perhaps just a few years younger than a Harry Potter audience. It's also terribly short, though that might just be due to the fact that I read through it in one sitting, eating up each page excitedly.

The story, however, is deliciously unique and deliciously interesting. Even as an adult, I find that I love it. This sequel has managed to continue that. A new, intriguing character is introduced-- Anastasia, a mysterious Assembly Mage who seems obsessed with white-- and current characters get more fleshed out. We learn more about Alex, are shocked by criminal acts, feel our trust betrayed, and ultimately follow the story, riveted, because it is interesting.

So it's a good book. I won't go into too much depth, because who needs to read spoilers? But if you've read the first two, and you're fine with the writing being just a bit light (I would personally /love/ this series written with a lot more exposition and depth, but to each their own), then this book will be excellent for you. Particularly if you want to see a bit more of the dynamic for Callum and Aaron, who actually seem to interact more and better in this book than the previous ones.

Short and fun middle grade fantasy read.

This is the third book in the Magisterium series which is planned to have five books in it. This was an excellent continuation of the Magisterium series, I really enjoyed this book a lot. This has been a well done middle grade fantasy series which both me and my 9 year old son enjoy.

We see a lot more of Call and Aaron wielding their Makar talents in this book and learn a lot more about Chaos magic. Call isn’t questioning his evilness quite as much but is still struggling with the idea that he is the soul of an evil mage reborn.

Much of the story is focused on Call, Aaron, and Tamara trying to track down a spy in the school...a spy who may also be a murderer. Some interesting secrets are revealed about Call’s past and Aaron is struggling with what it means to be a Makar.

Overall this is a quick and fun read and I enjoyed it a lot. These characters are fun and engaging and the story takes some unexpected turns throughout. I think fans of middle grade fantasy will enjoy this series a lot. I love the elemental magic in it and how well the writing flows. I am looking forward to see what happens in book four.

Although not as good as previous books and ends on a annoying cliffhanger, still the over all story has kept me engaged and coming back for more. I am starting to take issue with the nature of the books ending unresolved in any reasonable way. I did not really have that problem with the first ones, but this one didn't end. It just dropped you off in the middle of the story like the season end of a tv series. At this point, although I still like the overall story and honestly cannot predict where it is going, I don't want to keep reading books that never end. I also have hesitations in recommending this book for younger students as it is getting very very dark and I am not sure that would be appropriate for their age group. Still, this is the first time the story has "dipped" like this so I am reserving judgement on the whole series until I read the next one.

What I Thought- This was an amazing sequel. It was extremely well-crafted. You really feel sorry for M when she realizes that she can’t trust anyone, maybe not even her own friends! This one was kind of on the depressing side, but I’m assuming it is like the bridge between the ultimate final “battle” in the series. This is the book where all hope seems gone. The characters that you meet are intriguing and keep you guessing at their motives. Justice brings up more thought-provoking questions such as in Lawless. Mr. Salane has a great writing style. It really draws you in and holds you there. Like Lawless, I couldn’t put this book down! I can’t wait to read more from Mr. Salane!

Needs a Facelift

While Justice's predecessor Lawless stumbled in many ways, it ultimately managed to be a pretty good story, minus a ridiculous ending. Unfortunately, Justice doesn't do the same. This book sees M working for the Fulbrights-which would be interesting, except for the fact that they actually accept her so easily. Also, while Lawless struggled with some of the flow of the story, Justice flops. It just isn't that interesting, and there are far too many abstract concepts. Sure, there was the Box in Lawless. But it was just a really cool high-tech simulator. Now, it's this geeky "programmable matter", that's just a big headache. If they can build suits with programmable matter, than can't everything else be programmable matter too? And what's so terrifying about a demerit? It just all feels contrived. And don't get me starting on the ending. The fact that the Fulbrights' leader is a zombie doesn't make any sense. And it's not explained either really. While parts of this book are decent, it struggles to fit together as a cohesive whole. Hopefully. Mayhem will be better.
