About the Author
Zinan Ye has had a long career in translation, as a medical translator and as an educator at Hangzhou University and the Monterey Institute of International Studies. He has written books on translation and writes regularly for Chinese Translators Journal.
Lynette Xiaojing Shi has been a translator and interpreter for 30 years, including at the United Nations. She has taught at the University of Hawaii and the Monterey Institute of International Studies. She has translated a novel and has consulted on Chinese-English dictionaries published in China.

clear and concise!

this is not for someone with elementary Chinese skills.. one reviewer gave a bad review just because of his mediocre Chinese and wishes there is pinyin. If you are serious about starting a career in translation or want to get a basic understanding of underlying principles behind Chinese English translation, then this is the book for you. The authors had done a good job of explaining why good translation is a no easy task but requires lot of skills and knowledge with both the target and source language. What I especially like about the book is the fact that after every chapter there are exercises to reinforce some of the fundamental topics covered in a particular chapter. The exercises come with solutions at the end of the book. The only reason I gave a 4 stars is because I think there is still room for improvement and I hope there will be more books in the market that deal with Chinese to English translation though there are plenty of English to Chinese.
